Lisa S. Goldstein, a professor and director of teacher education at Santa Clara University in California, will be in Hawaii in early November to speak on “Leveraging the Common Core Standards to Support Young Children’s Learning.”
An internationally recognized expert on teachers’ curricular and instructional decision-making in pre-kindergarten through third grade, Goldstein has spent the last 10 years documenting early childhood teachers’ successful efforts to engage in developmentally-appropriate practice in today’s standards-driven environment.
Workshops will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9-11:30 a.m., at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, Waikoloa Beach Resort, and on Oahu Monday, Nov. 4, from 9-a.m. at the Airport Honolulu Hotel-Hawaii Room. Cost to attend is $32 per person and includes continental breakfast. The workshops are being sponsored by Baby STEPS to Stronger Big Island Families, in partnership with the Head Start Association of Hawaii and Hawaii P-3.
“This is an important topic for Department of Education (DOE) teachers, but is also pertinent to educators in preschool settings as they prepare children for kindergarten,” says Angela Thomas, team leader for Baby STEPS to Stronger Big Island Families, who added, “The workshops are appropriate for both DOE and preschool teachers in all settings.”
